Lady Amelia has only known the comfort of life in mid-eighteenth century English aristocracy. But when first her mother and then her father die, she finds herself alone, grief stricken and….. not of age. Her appointed guardian, an American uncle, has ordered her travel to his plantation where she must remain for at least two years when she will come of age.
With the help of Lady Grace and Lady Sarah, Lady Amelia gets her uncle to agree to give her four weeks to settle her affairs and unbeknownst to him…find an English lord to marry so she can remain in her beloved England. Despite her mourning period she endeavors to trap one of London’s eligible bachelors in matrimony.
Lord Goldstone, Lady Grace’s nephew is devilishly handsome, but a Scottish Duke and so entirely unacceptable as a possible husband. After all Scotland is not her beloved London and environs. He also has a nasty habit of showing up at all the wrong moments and thwarting her carefully laid plans to ensnare a suitable husband. Sparks fly as the pair find themselves at odds with each other and drawn to each other at the same time.
Can they find a way to stop arguing long enough to explore their growing passion?
Is it strong enough to make Lady Amelia give up her English home after all?
Or will Lady Amelia find a suitable English lord and avoid social exile in America?
Time is running out.
I absolutely loved this book. Author Amanda Mariel really blew me away with her story and characters. There were so many different emotions; happiness, sadness, and excitement. I was mystified by everything happening in this read.
Some of my favorite genres of novels are Scottish and Historical. There was a little of both in “Scandalous Endeavors.” I love the scenery Amanda Mariel depicted along with the attractions between the two main characters. Although I was sad that it ended, I honestly hope this is the beginning of a series and I get to partake in the next story.
I related to Lady Amelia on so many levels; head strong, bold, sensual, and brave. She goes into action and takes control of her world, which is so entertaining. Her two best friends, Lady Grace and Lady Sarah, will make you laugh and cry.
I don’t like posting reviews that reveal spoilers because I know there are many that may have not read this yet. So I will leave my words simple and to the point. You guys need to read this book. If you love Scotland, Highlanders, England, and witty English ladies, then this is the book for you!
The hero and heroine had a great connection. They were so sweet together. It’s like they were meant for one another.
I really love the time frame this book was depicted in. The 1800’s has always been an interesting and entertaining time for me to read about. I love educating myself on their ways of life.
Amanda Mariel made me feel as if I were sitting there with them in the past, which I enjoyed immensely. Definition of a good book? It sucks you into the time and place with the words you are reading, feeling as if you are truly there. “Scandalous Endeavors” excels with this.
Just know, Lady Amelia will catch eyes with one handsome rake finally meeting her match. The scheming ways of Lady Amelia shall be caught, then she shall have to learn the ways of falling in love. So you shall love walking into this world of Ladies and Scoundrels.
