Author: Tamara Lush
Release Date: September 30, 2015

Journalist Skylar Shaw covers a plane crash on a Florida beach that leads her to a handsome yet mysterious Italian man…and the conspiracy that threatens all he holds dear.
Romance is the last thing on reporter Skylar Shaw’s mind when she covers a plane crash on a Florida beach. Her best source could be a mysterious Italian visitor, but he’s strictly off the record—unless it involves indulging their electrifying attraction. Little does Skylar know, but that crash was only the beginning.
Luca Rossi is hiding a big secret: He’s a journalist, too, and his anonymous exposé on the Mafia destroyed his world. Now, after a lonely year on the run, he will do anything to possess this vulnerable American beauty. But Skylar is as relentless as the Florida glare, and their world ignites with passion, obsession and murder. Soon erotic nights will bleed into dangerous days, and nowhere will be safe from the heat.
Exclusive interview with Author Tamara Lush!
1.) What inspired you to become a writer?
I have always loved the written word. My parents told me that I learned to read young and didn’t like being read to — I’d want to read books on my own. To me, reading is like breathing. It comes naturally. When I was in grade school, I wrote stories about adventurous men and women, loosely based on archaeology! (I was heavily influenced by Raiders of the Lost Ark). As I got older, I read everything I could get my hands on. I’ve always had two loves: sexy books and narrative non-fiction stories. I am blessed to be able to write both. During my day job, I’m a reporter with The Associated Press, where I write about everything from crime to the citrus industry to alligators to politics. At night, I write romance fiction. It’s an honor to write both — I love being able to inform people with my news articles and entertain people with my fiction.
2.) Why did you choose “Hot Shade” as your title of your debut novel?
The story was originally called UNCOVERED. That was its working title when I was writing the book and when I submitted it for contests. When I contracted with Boroughs Publishing Group, I had long discussions with my editor, Christopher Keeslar, about the title. He thought that Uncovered had been used too many times, and he was correct. We wanted a title that reflected the suspense, the sexiness and the setting. Hot Shade evokes images of the Florida noir genre: sun-soaked, sexy and slightly cynical. It reflects those undercurrents running through the book.
3.) Who is your inspiration in life?
During my years in journalism I have met so many people who are inspirations. Especially those folks who are living quiet, normal lives who are faced with a hardship or tragedy, who wake up filled with optimism and hope despite the odds against them. As far as a single person, it is a woman named Sharon Salzberg. She is a meditation teacher and about three months before I started writing fiction, I attended a weekend-long session taught by her at a yoga retreat. Her wisdom, mindfulness and lovingkindness have guided my life in profound ways, and for that I am eternally grateful. One my favorite quotes from her is, “We need the courage to learn from our past and not live in it.” I love that.
4.) Who are your favorite authors?
In romance, my favorite writers are Lisa Kleypas, Molly O’Keefe and Tiffany Reisz. In non-fiction, I love Jon Krakauer, Barbara Ehrenreich and Truman Capote.
5.) What is next for you in your writing career?
In 2016, I’ll have other books out with Boroughs and I’m also excited to announce that I’ll be part of a sexy anthology. All of the stories in the anthology will be written by Florida authors and set in Florida. It will feature some well-known authors in the erotic romance genre and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!
6.) What are your hobbies?
I love watching movies with my husband, walking with my dogs, doing yoga, cooking and coloring. I’m totally into the whole therapeutic coloring phase.
7.) What is your favorite thing to do on your own free time?
Eat a quiet, romantic dinner with my husband.
8.) Who has been the most helpful to you in your brand new writing career?
Early on, I entered Harlequin’s So You Think You Can Write contest. I ended up connecting with a woman on Twitter, and she’s become my critique partner and dear friend. That woman, Kat Faitour, published her own wonderful romance novel about two weeks before Hot Shade was released. Not only did we give each other writing support, but we’ve each shared our publishing journeys with each other. She’s like my female soulmate. I never imagined that I would meet someone like that on Twitter! We talk every day, almost.
9.) Can you tell us anything about whats coming next in your book series?
Hot Shade is a standalone romantic suspense, but it will be part of a series set on Palmira Island. I’m working on edits for the second book in the series to be published by Boroughs. It’s a second-chance romance. In this second book, a wounded Afghanistan war veteran returns to the island and falls back in love with his high school sweetheart.
10.) What would you like to say to all of your readers?
Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading my debut novel. I know it’s a leap of faith to take a chance on a new author, and I’m so grateful that you did! I hope to bring you many more stories about strong heroines and sexy men in the years to come!
